You should be able to:
•• computer virus
•• trojan
•• spyware
•• adware.
This is any type of software that is designed to cause damage or access data on a computer. We can protect ourselves from Malware by installing Anti-Virus protection. We can also make sure that we don't download applications and files from unknown sources. Particularly attachments to emails.
Computer Viruses corrupt files and make a program, computer or network unusable. The viruses can replicate across networks to cause more damage.
A trojan is a piece of software that appears to be absolutely fine and safe to use but it has secret code inside it that can manipulate your computer. The trojan can provide access to your computer via a back door, it can log what you are doing on your computer and it can make your computer really slow and unusable.
Spyware is used to track what you are doing on your computer. This could be all of the keystrokes that your keyboard makes. This data can then be used to find out usernames and passwords or sensitive information.
Adware is adverts attached to software. The software might be wanted but the adware isn't. The adware makes the creator money when people click on the links.
